CLAUDE Seanla’s double helped Winslow United record a vital 4-3 victory against rivals Buckingham Athletic in an enthralling local derby last night.
It was a huge win for Winslow in more ways than one – not only does it give them the local bragging rights, it also sees them climb to third from bottom. Meanwhile, Athletic are now 12th following back-to-back defeats in 2013.
Winslow made the ideal start when Seanla opened the scoring in the third minute but Adam Bone levelled matters on 34 minutes.
However, a horror injury to Athletic goalkeeper Tom Clark proved to be the turning point as defender Craig Rumble took over in goal with Clark stretchered off with ligament damage.
Winslow’s lead was quickly restored by Seanla before Phil Martin’s goal made it 2-2 at the break.
But Winslow continued to threaten and they were clinical as two goals in two minutes put them in control.
Hateley Mercer scored United’s third with Joe Donaldson scoreing a fourth to put the game out of Athletic’s reach.
The home side did manage to pull one back through a Bone penatly but Winslow held on for a thrilling win.
