Buckingham travelled north to take on Kersal Ladies in the second of their Championship North 1 fixtures last Sunday and came away with a convincing 24-11 victory.

The Swans were keen to continue their winning streak from the previous week but took time to settle into the match.

Excellent pressure from the forwards on the Altrincham line was well rewarded with the opening try of the game and a first try for second row Carole Gibb.

Buckingham were unlucky to lose a player to injury but undeterred they kept Altrincham at bay until late in the first half.

Altrincham capitalised on a penalty in front of the posts to decrease the gap.

However Buckingham responded quickly with pressure from the restart and were awarded a penalty close to the line.

A quick tap and go proved the successful formula with excellent ball handling releasing Sam Cleaver to run in for Buckingham’s second. Wallis added the conversion.

A second penalty allowed Altrincham to raise the score to 12-6 going into the break.

Following the interval Altrincham made a positive start to the second half with the first dent on the scoreline by utilising their pace in the back line to score a try.

Buckingham responded quickly to Altrincham’s try with good ball retention releasing winger Becky Pearson to add a third try to Buckingham’s tally. Wallis converted.

From the restart Buckingham were quick to pressurise the Altrincham defence to increase the lead further with a fourth and final try.

Buckingham worked hard to dominate in the scrum from the off and defended well to maintain their lead throughout the game. Women of the match were Nicola Lepper and Rebecca Pearson.

Buckingham Swan’s next game is at home to Waterloo Ladies on Sunday October 2.
