Highflying Swans stay top of table

Eccleshall Ladies 0

Buckingham Swans 14

Swans made the trip north on Sunday to take on Eccleshall Ladies and won a hard-fought game to stay top of the table.

Buckingham were slow to get started allowing Eccleshall to capitalise on their home advantage.

Utilising any opportunities that arose Buckingham were quick to make a mark when Dee Turner broke from the back of the scrum. Excellent handling and a good offload allowed Jo Godfrey to receive and touch down for Buckingham’s first try. Bec Bray added the conversion.

The teams continued to fight hard allowing Buckingham to make several turnovers but were unfortunate not to turn possession into points. A late move before the break allowed Katie Clark to break the line but the referee deemed the ball to have been knocked forward. This left the score 7-0 going into the break.

After the break Buckingham continued to pile on the pressure at the breakdown, and Dee Turner dodged her way through the defence to touch down. Bray added the conversion taking the score to 14-0 to the visitors.

Eccleshall fought back to regain some composure but were kept at bay as a result of the strong Buckingham defence. Swans continued to defend their line as Eccleshall pressured the 22 but unfortunately had a player sent off. However Eccleshall did not utilise the extra player advantage and the score remained the same.

A tough game for Buckingham as they continue to maintain their place at the top of the table. Women of the match were Sian Brown and Fenella Houlston. They take on second-placed Nottingham Ladies on Sunday.
