Hinton-in-the-Hedges clinched the South Northants Cricket League Division Two title to secure an immediate return to Division One following relegation last season.

They sealed top spot on Saturday with a thumping 129-run victory over Kings Sutton. Batting first, Matt Lemon hit 81 and Josh Withers made 30 as the home side posted 191-6 before Paul White’s superb 7-26 dismissed Kings Sutton for just 62.

The result means Hinton hold an unassailable 31-point lead at the top of the table with only one game remaining.

In the Premier Division, Byfield took a step closer to the title thanks to a six-wicket victory over Marston St Lawrence, while Syresham’s hopes faded with a 55-run defeat at Warwick University Staff despite the best efforts of Richard Wyness (56).

Only Middleton Cheney can catch Byfield with a win in their final match this weekend following an eight-wicket victory over fourth-placed Evenley.

At the bottom of the table, Charlton boosted their hopes of escaping relegation as Ellis Rush took 4-26 to bowl Wroxton out for 97 before Syed Naveed’s 31 saw the home side to victory with four wickets to spare.

MK Air (174) have secured the Division One title following a 127-win over Evenley A (47), who remain in relegation trouble, while Thornborough (109-9) edged to a thrilling one-wicket win over Croughton (108) and Greens Norton (159-9) beat Bodicote (158-6) by the same margin after Matt Yuill scored 79.

In Division Three, Middleton Cheney A have been crowned champions as their three-wicket win over Towcestrians combined with Silverstone’s 10-wicket defeat at Helmdon sees them open up a 26-point lead with just one game remaining.

Elsewhere in the division, Syresham A beat Woodford Halse A after the latter failed to raise a side and Sibford (125-6) were four-wicket winners over Gawcott & Hillesden (124).

Finally, in Division Five, Wroxton A are on the verge of the title following a 53-run victory over Maids Moreton, while Flecknoe eased to a seven-wicket triumph over Brackley.

This weekend sees the final fixtures of the season as Syresham go to Byfield hoping to deny them the title, while Charlton host Evenley and Middleton Cheney are at Wroxton.

Other key fixtures this Saturday see Greens Norton entertain Willoughby, Evenley A host Thornborough, Gawcott & Hillesden travel to Syresham A and Helmdon are at home to Towcestrians.
