Great Horwood won a hard-fought victory against already-relegated neighbours Winslow Town at the weekend to secure promotion from OCA Division Two.
Horwood batted first and captain Stuart Parker (43) formed an excellent partnership with Gary Lee to give the home side a strong platform.
Chris McStraw helped accelerate the run-rate before Nick Glister’s 28 bumped the total up to 220 with Lee finishing unbeaten on 83.
Horwood took to the field confident of victory but some good batting from Greg Wise (25), Iain Herbertson (28) and James Bishop (47) put the match in the balance as Winslow reached 100-1.
A flurry of wickets altered the momentum, though, as excellent bowling from James Waddington and Glister turned the match Horwood’s way.
Waddington was the standout bowler, taking 5-38, as Winslow finished on 187-9, leaving Horwood victors by 33 runs, which was enough to secure the runners-up spot.
Horwood end their season with an away match at Chipping Norton on Saturday.
