Visitors to Silverstone last weekend were handed the opportunity to see the British track debut of the brand-new Lamborghini Huracan GT3 racer, writes James Beckett.
Two examples of the mouth-watering Italian GT3 car were entered in the second round of the Blancpain Endurance Series by the GRT Grasser Racing Team.
The team’s lead number 19 Huracan car was driven by Fabio Babini, Jeroen Mul and Andrew Palmer, with the sister number 63 machine by Giovanni Venturini, Adrian Zaugg and Mirko Bortolotti.
The two ‘green machines’ were spectacular around the 3.6-mile Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, with the best result for the team being by the 63 car that finished eighth overall in the 3-hour race.
The number 19 car won the opening race in Monza, only to be penalised for a technical infringement, but it was not able to repeat its performance at Silverstone - finishing seventeenth after experiencing a few problems.
Fabio Babini said: “It was great to show the Silverstone crowd our new cars. The Lamborghini Huracan is a superb racing car and we enjoyed our visit to Silverstone. This is a track I like very much and we look forward to coming back next year to try and win the Blancpain Endurance Series race for the Silverstone fans who cheered us hard all weekend.”
