A5 beat Banbury in time-trial

The recent 10-mile inter-club time-trial between the A5 Rangers Cycling Club and the Banbury Star Cyclists Club resulted in a win for the Towcester-based club.

A total of 31 riders took part in the event, held on the Finmere course, with three other clubs taking part – Team Cherwell, Bicester Tri Club and Drag2Zero.

Winner of the event was Jon Simpkins of Drag2Zero after he produced a stunning ride of 20.56 minutes.

Using the points system of rider’s actual finishing position and veterans’ standard times, the Rangers scored 110 points to the Stars’ 97.

Fastest A5 Ranger was Pete Trotman with 24.13 while fastest Star rider was Simon Kisley with 22.51.

The second of the club’s Come And Try It five-mile events was also blessed with good weather. Several novice riders took part – all receiving prizes thanks to Towcester Cycle Servicing and Waitrose, Towcester.

Fastest rider on the night was Joseph Wood (12.12 minutes) while 13-year-old Blake Stanley was fastest juvenile boy, completing the distance in 15.46.

Dave Winget’s 14.13 earned him the fastest novice prize. Other times as follows: Alex Brawn 13.14, Jonny Anders 13.34, Martin Smith 13.47, Kyle Kirton 15.52, Graham French, John Reade 18.47, Chris Latham 19.03, Pete Semler 19.44.
