Runners from Alchester are all set for the Banbury 15 mile open road race on Sunday, the opening round of the Oxfordshire Athletics Association Grand Prix road race series, and also a round of the club’s own championship.

In 2015, Alchester’s women’s squad finished second in the series out of 14 Oxfordshire clubs while the men’s squad were fourth, excellent achievements for one of the smaller clubs in the county.

The club’s Jennifer McBain was women’s individual champion with Shaun O’Gorman leading for the men in eighth.

The Grand Prix series consists of 15 races, ranging in distance from 5km to marathon, and concluding with the Eynsham 10k in late November.

This week, McBain finished first UK lady at the Surrey Half Marathon on Sunday in a personal best time of 1:20:59hrs, while Ian Hunter finished strongly at the Silverstone Half Marathon (1:23:04), and Rebecca Fennell and Lilla Somogyi both ran well at the Liverpool Half Marathon.
