Bicester IIs earned an impressive bonus-point victory away at Grove IIs on Saturday, largely thanks to some outstanding scrummaging by their forwards and a fine defensive effort.
In a frenetic opening period, Bicester took the lead when they peeled a Grove scrum against the head and centre James Holton broke sharply through the middle before Chris Nash’s chipped kick was brilliantly gathered by winger Rob Arthur, who scampered across to the right of the posts for a try converted by Will Howard.
Simon Warren then stretched across for a second converted score to increase the Bicester lead, but Grove’s Tom McCarthy ploughed across for a try that he also converted.
The visitors built on their first half advantage with a try 14 minutes after the restart, prop Alex MacDonald crashing over, before Jake Holdsworth scored Bicester’s fourth and final try as some stern defending from away side saw them through to a comfortable 26-7 victory.
The first team resume their league campaign at home to Chesham this weekend.
