There was an outstanding team performance from Bicester Athletic Club’s U13 girls in the second round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League held at Harcourt Hill.

The team was spearheaded by Amy Gould, who celebrated her call up for the Oxfordshire County Team in next weekend’s Inter County Championships with an excellent second place after clocking 8.22mins for the 2000m course.

She was well supported by Holly Griffiths-Brown, who finished sixth in 8.31, with the A team completed by 15th-placed Molly Action. This was good enough to propel the A team into second place overall.

There were further good runs down the field with Maisie Silvester 19th, Freya Smith 27th, Holly Hunter 29th, Beth Hipwell 31st, Lucy Stowell 36th, Amber Pittuck 37th, Lauren Garside 40th and debutant Ebony-Rose Lennon 42nd.

For the U11 boys, Freddie Taylor claimed third place which leaves him fourth overall, while Ellis Griffiths-Brown made the top 10 for the first time and was followed by James Rendell (13th), Michael Cadle (14th), Nicholas Gilbert (21st), Thomas Pringle (23rd) and Joseph Nugent (35th).

In the U11 girls race, Millie Couzens finished a strong fifth out of 58 runners. Following her was Lucy Watts (10th), Amelia Cox (12th), Georgia Usher (19th) Emelia Sims (20th), Ava Neptune (35th) and Ruby Silvester (52nd).

Elsewhere, Tom Couzens produced one of his best cross country runs to finish eighth ahead of Billy England (13th), William Sims (25th) and Samuel Worfolk (33rd).

Bicester had five runners in the U9 race and Harry Rendell led the local contingent home in fifth place, followed by Imogen Cox (15th), Bella Couzens (17th), Anna Couzens (19th) and Isla Bohannon (37th).

In the older age groups, Tom Gould was 13th in 16.51mins in the U15/17 race with Harry Sturgess, Bicester’s only other finisher, in 29th. In the girls event, Tara Gowens finished 20th to head home Libbie Nicklin (46th).
