Bicester youngsters do Oxfordshire proud

Fifteen athletes from Bicester Athletic Club travelled to Burgess Hill to represent Oxfordshire and take on six other counties in the South East U13 and U15 Sportshall Regional Final.

The U13 boys competition got off to an excellent start, with JJ Welham, Tom Couzens, William Sims and Witney athlete Tyler Krumins winning the obstacle relay, before Couzens took an excellent second in the six lap time trial.

Harvey Attrill was then ninth in the six lap event and 12th in the standing long jump, and Sims and Welham competed were second and seventh place respectively in the speedbounce event. Olly Lewis was another Bicester athlete on superb form too in bronze in the four lap final. Fergus Jones and Lewis were second in the eight lap paarlauf while Caelan Coney helped the relay team to fifth as the U13 boys finished in fourth place overall.

For the U13 girls, Alice Daniel was on good form to jump to a personal best leap of 59cm, which was enough to finish fourth, while Lauren Gardside gained an 11th place in the two lap heats and Holly Griffiths-Brown ran with Banbury Harrier Lily Hamp to finish third in the eight lap paarlauf.

Orlaith Lyford also contributed valuable points with 13th place in the shot putt and 14th in the four lap event. The U13 girls team finished the day in fifth place.

Olivia Stock was the sole Bicester representative in the U15 girls competition, helping the team to third overall, which included a superb 64cm leap in the vertical jump for third place.

Competition was tough for Bicester’s representatives in the U15 boys category. Connor Wilce took sixth in the standing triple jump with Zak Wilce finishing 13th in the same event. Wilce and Alex Jack then ran strongly in the 4x2 lap relay for a sixth place finish. The U15 boys finished fifth.
