BRACKLEY Rugby Club opened up their pre-season campaign with a narrow loss to Northampton Men’s Own in Ashton.

In a closely fought contest, Northampton, who were promoted to Midlands 3 East last season, edged victory by four points under the hot August sun.

A few new faces in the Brackley 1st XV showed some real depth in attack and defence, breaking the Men’s Own line to create a number of scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately for Brackley, the lack of available players on the day made the difference in the final 20-minute quarter.

Men’s Own capitalised fully on a tired Brackley defence to force a score and take the home side ahead.

A spirited effort by both sides and a number of positives for both teams to take in to the new season.
