BUCKINGHAM U13’s capped a superb tour of France by winning the French International Festival of Rugby.
The tournament took place in Arras, France and saw Buckingham, sporting their fashionable green and pink tour kit, take two teams, the Buccaneers and Pirates.
The first day saw the Pirates, led by Sam Thomson play and beat home team RC Arras (30-5), Pulborough Vikings (40-0) and lose to the Welsh side Gowerton (0-25).
The Buccaneers, led by Tom Foster, beat French side RC Cambrai (0-40), Blackheath (0-25) and Pulborough Vandals (0-10).
Sunday saw both teams through to the semi finals with the Pirates drawing 10-10 with Blackheath and the Buccaneers beating Pulborough Vandals 60-0.
With the Bucaneers and Pirates drawn to play each other and too many injuries the teams were combined for the final where they met Gowerton, who had proved to be a powerful side.
The final was a tense affair with Gowerton playing a tight off loading game and Buckingham trying to play a fast open game.
Neither side conceded any quarter with strong defensive tackling from both sides leaving coaches and spectators wincing alike.
Nothing could separate the sides on the tight French pitch by full time and the game incredibly finished 0-0.
In the spirit of the tournament both sides shared the honours.
The boys played some spirited attacking rugby combined with solid defence and deservedly came away with Championship Cup.
