Buckingham Town and Cookham Dean were thwarted by the British weather at the weekend when their HCPL Division Two match was curtailed by rain.

Put into bat first, Steve Brunning got Buckingham off to a quick start with three early boundaries before being bowled by one that nipped back at him from Faaez Shamsi for 13.

Leigh Tomlinson joined Rob Large at the crease and the pair moved the score onto 25 for 1 before the first of the rain showers arrived which forced an early lunch.

After over a two hour break, the game resumed with the overs reduced to 43/37, and Tomlinson and Large added a further 30 runs in seven overs when the weather had its say for a second time.

A further 35 minutes were lost which reduced the overs to 37/33 and meant that any more stoppages would see the game abandoned.

Large and Tomlinson took their partnership passed 50 before both fell in consecutive overs with Large caught behind off Aditya Rai for 45 and Tomlinson bowled by Herbert Chikomba for 17.

Ash Pearson and Callum Price came together and had taken the score past 100 with a run-a-ball partnership of 29 when Price was bowled by Rai for 21.

After that wickets fell regularly as the Buckingham batsman attempted to score quickly, with only Pearson (40 from 47 balls) made a score before being the ninth man out as Buckingham were all out from the final ball of their 37 overs for 150.

Chikomba was the pick of the bowlers with 7-42.

Cookham Dean had six overs to face before the tea break, scoring 17 without the loss of a wicket, but after the interval, Josh Nix and James Gear both picked up a wicket during a spell of six consecutive maidens.

The hosts moved onto 25 for 2 from 12 overs when the rain returned and the game was abandoned.

The result sees Buckingham drop to third in the Home Counties League Division Two table as Oxford were able to dodge the showers and claim victory over Gerrards Cross.
