Buckingham Ladies Hockey Club’s IIs scored their 1,000th goal in an 8-0 drubbing of Oxford IIs.
The runaway leaders in Trysports Premier One dominated large periods of the first half but were often left frustrated by a resilient Oxford side, who defended well to hold out until Buckingham finally broke the deadlock.
Charlie Coumbe netted the opener on 18 minutes before Georgie Holme deflected in a second goal three minutes later.
The home side had to wait until the second half to add further goals as Ella Cusack’s cross was neatly converted by Andrea Freshwater for the team’s 1,000th goal before the same combination linked up again with Freshwater netting her second.
A demonstration in how to play one-two at pace from Charlie Coumbe and Jaz Needham resulted in Jaz deflecting in the fifth goal off the post, and after 50 minutes, a cross from junior Emily Protheroe was slotted in by Andrea for her hat-trick, before Needham and Fi Farley completed the scoring.
The victory keeps Buckingham, who have scored 94 goals and conceded just four this season, two points clear with a game in hand. They visit Aylesbury this weekend.
