Buckingham Ladies Hockey Club’s IIs have been crowned champions of Division 3A of the South Clubs’ Hockey League after clinching their eighth promotion in seven years.
The team had gone 100 games unbeaten prior to the start of this season but lost their first two games, however 20 successive wins later and they’re once again celebrating promotion.
The latest of those wins came in fine style too, with an 11-1 thrashing of Maidenhead IIs. Surprisingly, Maidenhead struck first on three minutes but that was merely a blip for Buckingham who proceeded to run riot as in-form Meg Edwards created three goals in five minutes for Andrea Freshwater, Millie Wemyss and Liz Flack.
Georgie Holme extended the lead and two goals from Tash James made it 6-1 at half-time before Freshwater, James, Wemyss, Flack and Kirsty Freshwater all struck second-half goals for a one-sided final scoreline.
