Buckingham IIs backed up their opening day 4-0 win over Wallingford with a 3-1 victory at home to Oxford Hawks in Trysports Premier Two.
Buckingham capitalised on a strong start to take a 1-0 lead from a well-worked short corner routine finished off by Kirsty Freshwater, before some poor defending allowed Oxford to pull level thanks to a clinical finish.
The home side remained on top, though, and the Oxford goal helped Buckingham to refocus with Laura Grossick finishing smartly from a slick passing move on the stroke of half time.
Buckingham maintained the momentum early in the second half but failed to add to their lead before the home defence of Sophie Tuckett, katie Mack, Issy Honour and Loz Thompson had to soak up a long spell of Oxford pressure.
Player of the Match Tracy Jones was unlucky to have a well-taken goal disallowed, but Buckingham did seal the three points when Freshwater scored her second thanks to the hard-working duo of Ella Cusack and Georgie Holme.
The win gives Buckingham an early lead at the top of the Premier Two table ahead of a trip to Wokingham this weekend.
