This Sunday, skaters from the newly-formed Code Red roller derby team will take on the challenge of roller skating a marathon distance to raise funds for Helen & Douglas House and skating in memory of Thomas Laurie from Bicester, who died in February.
The Bicester-based team only opened their doors on March 30, and as well as recruiting new members, they have focused on helping the teams publically nominated charity as much as they can.
Team member Sharon said: “This is going to be quite a challenge as some of the skaters only joined the team a few weeks ago and some of the girls had not been on skates for a year or more before joining.
“We use different wheels for outside skating, and due to weather we have not managed to get as much outdoor endurance practice as we would have liked. We are going to do this whatever the weather, we are supporting a wonderful charity and over the year would like to do as much for them as we possibly can to promote, support and fundraise for them.”
The Roll-a-thon is taking place at Goodwood Race Circuit and the girls will complete 11 laps (2.4 miles per lap) to total the marathon distance.
