BEACHBOROUGH student Courtney Best finished first in the Girls U14 300m final as athletes from the school were in action for the Media Prep Schools Athletics Championships at Radley College.
The standard at the championships was extremely high with around 25 schools present that ranged from Worcestershire down as far as the south coast.
Competitors were eager to get going but the long timetable that included heats and finals in many track events made for a tense atmosphere.
Despite that, Beachborough athletes performed well with Best the stand out performer and sole winner as Nell Bowden wasn’t far behind in fifth during the same race.
Elsewhere, Annabel Gulliver finished fourth in the U14 Girls 100m final while Ellie Whybrow came fifth in the U14 Girls 800m.
For the boys, Tom Stimpson was fifth in the U14 400m final and Toby Mitchell qualified for the U14 Boys 200m final despite the tough competition.
U11 athletes Venetia Moir, Josh McCallum, Charlie Oakey, Zach McComb and Jack Lloyd competed commendably well against exclusively U12 opposition.
As for the U10 athletes, Kitty Jewson and Angus Pollock showed real promise for the future, competing strongly against opposition two years older, in the U12 age group.
All the athletes now look forward with anticipation to the next athletic event at the Stowe Triangular later this term.
