Deadly Bicester duo strike again

Bicester Boxing Club’s welterweight duo of Jack Wheeler and Sammy Ait-Tales were both on top form at the Witney Boxing Show to record unanimous victories.

Sixteen-year-old Wheeler was first to enter the ring and he made a strong start in the opening round against home boxer Aaron Mullis with the Bicester man using his superior jab to set up four and five punch combinations.

As the fight progressed, Wheeler became more and more dominant – at one point leaving Mullis on the canvas with a vicious left hook – before the bell sounded to signal a convincing victory for the Bicester boxer.

After the contest, Wheeler said: “I‘ve been training really hard in the gym and felt fit going into this bout. I always prepare diligently and am pleased to get this victory against a strong and tough opponent.”

Bicester’s second boxer, Ait-Tales, was also in blistering form to blow away the challenge of another home favourite, Tom Brennan.

Ait-Tales moved around the ring impressively in the opening stages while also firing out fast combinations and using slick head movement to avoid oncoming punches.

The Bicester man began to find his range in the second round as he threw clusters of punches before dominating the final round to take another unanimous victory.

Bicester Boxing Club’s head coach, Daza Usher, said afterwards: “I’m really proud and pleased with both the lads tonight. They are both training hard for our home show in December and it’s good to get a victory for them in the run up to our show.

“Both lads were up against two tough opponents but the work they put in at the gym and the numerous miles they cover when running gave them the edge. They can both build on this performance and add more to their growing skill set.”
