Great Horwood recorded an emphatic 103-run victory at Chadlington on Saturday to move back up to second place in OCA Division One.

After winning the toss, Horwood openers Stuart Parker (30) and Sam Willett (27) got the innings off to a fast start as they added 44 for the first wicket in 10 overs.

Matt Thatcher (44) came in at three and looked in good touch as the batsmen continued to dominate the bowling, while Dale Armitage made 13 and his dismissal brought Josh Nix to the crease to join Thatcher with the score 119-3.

They added 82 runs in the next 10 overs with Nix at his destructive best as he blasted 65 which included six sixes.

Thatcher rotated the strike well the other end and the pair took Horwood beyond 200 before both were dismissed near the end of the innings, but Matt Mcstraw added a quick-fire unbeaen 26 to push the final total up to 242-5.

The pair of Nix and Thatcher then backed up their batting exploits by opening the bowling and in tandem bowled superbly to put the game beyond Chadlington.

Thatcher bowled economically and was unlucky to not pick up a wicket as he bowled 12 overs for just 30 runs, however it was a different story for Nix, who ripped through the top order in his 12 overs to finish with fine figures of 5-14.

At this point, Chadlington decided to batten down the hatches and just survive, making it hard for Horwood to pick up the remaining wickets.

Haydon Morrison was able to pick up one but Chadlington eventually closed on 139-6 to give Horwood 28 points, which puts them just three behind leaders Westbury and five ahead of third-placed Radley in a tight title race.

This Saturday, Horwood are at home to Stonesfield starting at 1.30pm.
