Lane targets promotion

BUCKINGHAM RUFC 1st XV coach Alan Lane promises there is more to come from his side as they head into the second half of the season aiming for promotion.

Buckingham are currently fourth in the Southern Counties North having won seven of their opening 11 games.

Lane said: “For the most part we’ve played well this season and displayed some really good rugby. We’ve scored lots of points but we lost a couple of games that we would have hoped to have won.

“We’re only eight points off top so we’re still right up there and the good thing for us is that we still have to play two of the top three at home and we haven’t lost at home this year so that’s looking positive.

“Our problem this year has been the amount of injuries, we have a few players out for the rest of the season.

“Andy Turvey and Adam Whiter are both injured and they’re two county players so it’s a big loss, but we do have players due back in the New Year.

“There’s certainly more to come. I didn’t think we’d have lost three games already and drawn one so it’s a bit below where I was aiming but we’ve had some injuries and we’re still in touch with the leaders.”
