Maxwell youngsters shine in county championships

Maxwell Swimming Club had a number of youngsters from the Buckingham, Winslow and Brackley area win gold medals in the Oxfordshire and North Buckinghamshire County Championships.

The competition started with 13-year-olds Sebastian Nichols and Sinead Vine-Nealon both achieving personal bests in the 1500m and 800m freestyle respectively.

That was followed by victory for the Maxwell A team of Sam Drew, Sean Richards, Piers Nichols and David Eddy, who won gold in the medley (2.38.11) and freestyle (2.20.86).

Also winning gold were the quartets of Oliver Kenton, Alex Doe, Oliver Hassall and Max Jelfs, and James Eddy, George Manser, Billy Martin and Harry Maishman.

On the second day of competition, Vine-Nealon was on-form again to clock a personal best in both the 400m medley (5.38.99) and freestyle (4.44.59), finishing in fifth and second place respectively.

Ten-year-old April Barns improved her best time by 17 seconds to finish third in the 400m freestyle, while Charlotte Brunt and Robyn Messenger also recorded personal best times and Piers Nichols finished second in the 400m medley with a regional qualifying time of 6.22.04.

Then came the girls relay events, which saw Maxwell’s A team of April Barnes, Millie Tomlin-Davies, Merissa Booth and Lottie Pond win bronze in the medley, matched by the freestyle quartet of Merrison, April Barnes, Merissa Booth and Lottie Pond.

In the 11/12 year old age group, Charlotte Brunt, Lily Ramanuckis, Hannah Childs and Olivia Phillips, missed out on the medals, finishing fifth in the medley and fourth in the freestyle relay.

Finally, in the 13/14 year category, the Maxwell A team of Sinead Vine Nealon, Megan Pirrie, Caitlin Winchcombe and Robyn Messenger took silver in the medley (2.12.06), before teaming up with Neve Gascoyne to again win silver in the freestyle relay.
