Jockey AP McCoy created sporting history at Towcester on Thursday when he claimed a 4,000th career win.

The 18-time champion jockey reached the unprecedented landmark thanks to victory on Mountain Tunes in the 15.10.

McCoy, who recorded his first career win in 1992, had earlier finished fifth on Church Field in the 14:10 handicap hurdles at Towcester, but he didn’t have to wait long to claim the incredible achievement.

The victory puts him nearly 1,500 successes ahead of any other rider over jumps, with his most famous triumphs coming at the Grand National in 2010 and the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1997 and 2012.
