Silverstone-based Silson Joggers AC have enjoyed a busy time recently with the final Chiltern League Cross Country race of the season.

Needing a good performance to avoid relegation, Silson took 48 runners to Wing with the top 12 teams staying in League Division One for the 2013/2014 competition.

Tom Phelps led the men’s team home as he finished 35th overall while Heather Kirk (31st) led the ladies and the other fourteen club runners did enough to beat the Oxford team by 601 points and move ahead of them in the final league table to claim 12th.

In addition, the junior girls put in a terrific effort to score 194 points while the boys also performed well to take Silson Jogger’s junior’s points total to 849, enough to move them to 11th place.

With 77 runners taking part in at least one round of the series, the club was helped by the 15 regulars who completed all five rounds: Chris Wood, Dan Taylor, Andy Hoare, Dave Jarrett, Tim Hullett, Allan Lock, Declan Cooper, Adam Gray, Heather Kirk, Tasha King, Regan Cooper, Sophie Gray, Caitlin Jones, Eleanor Rees and Rosie Edmunds.

And last weekend saw Simon Woodward taking part in the Stamford Striders’ Valentine’s Day 30K, where he finished 21st overall out of 749 competitors in a personal best time 1.58.10.

Darren Brockwell, meanwhile, completed the Portsmouth Coastal Half Marathon in a time of 2.08.04 hours.
