Tows suffer blow in race for promotion

Towcestrians 1st XV’s push for promotion from South West One East suffered a blow at the weekend when they slumped to a 17-7 home defeat against third-placed Windsor.

James Favley hit the posts with an early penalty and that set the tone for the day as Tows went into half time behind and failed to recover despite creating numerous openings.

The home side did take the lead when Craig Holton charged over to score and Falvey converted, but that prompted heavy Windsor pressure which led to two converted tries before half time through Gary Morgan and the visiting centre.

Tows created further chances in the second half but the home side failed to capitalise on them, before the visitors put the game beyond Tows’ reach with a late penalty.

Towcestrians remain in second place but only on points difference from Windsor with both sitting on 39 points. Tows face a trip to local rivals Buckingham this weekend.

Elsewhere, Tows IIs beat ON IIs 41-19, the IIIs won 67-7 at Heathens and the Colts were 12-7 winners over Dunstable Colts.
