THE Bicester-based Unique Boxing Club had a host of victories at the Unique Fitness Centre Boxing show held at the Oxford Hotel.
The Bicester club had entrants in 10 of the 12 contests with the highlight of the show a rematch between Matt Williams – who was representing the Bicester outfit – and Bedford’s Johnny Cooper.
After suffering a hotly-contested loss the last time these two met, Williams made amends by totally dominating Cooper for every minute of the three round contest.
He put his opponent on the back foot right from the start with hard hooks to the body and a strong left to the head.
After soaking up punishment for the whole round, Cooper had no reply to Williams’ offensive style and was pinned onto the ropes with a solid left hand that rocked Cooper to his boots.
Williams resumed the second round as he had finished the first, with clusters of punches to both body before he danced around the ring in the third, popping his lead hand jab and then spinning off to leave his opponent bewildered.
The end result was a formality with Williams winning every round for a 30-27 score line.
Bicester boxer Daza Usher, head coach at the Unique Boxing Club, was extremely pleased with his man’s work.
He said: “The improvement he has shown since joining the club has shocked all his team mates, but I see the effort he puts in everyday and I’m not surprised with how well he has done.”
The other notable contests of the evening saw victories for Bicester’s John Butler, Paul Jennings and Luke Bucknell.
Butler – making his fourth appearance – won an tight contest with Tallon Clarke while Bucknell was making his debut for the Unique Boxing Club and entertained his supporters with a superb display to beat Faruk Shah 30-27.
Jennings was also making his debut and finished with a cluster of punches to confirm his victory over Gau Loh.
