Buckingham Primary School’s athletics squad have come away from the District Athletics Championships as Shield winners for the second year running.
Held at Stoke Mandeville stadium, the team made a strong start with a first place in the shot for Hannah Weatherley and second place finishes for newcomers Bradley Watson and Rochelle Joe, while Lyndon Keeling-Zatta was third in the older category.
Long jumpers Chloe Everest and Alex Martinez did well on their first taste of competition before Leon Cooper and Millie Handley both scored top three placings.
The track events were next up and the 800m gave Abi Fitton the chance to show her ability as she recorded a win in a best time of 2.64 minutes. Cooper came sixth in his race.
Year 3 and 4 boy sprinters Rhys Jordan and Jake Fassnidge were both third, with Olivia Paoli and Rochelle Joe second.
Emily Croft took another first place, while Dylan Morgan helped the Year 4 boys to relay success, as did Zoe Risborough for the girls team.
Experienced athletes Liam Finn and Megan Thompson were called upon to enhance the Year 5 and 6 relay squads as the girls took success.
Other stand-out performances came from April Barnes and Alex Tecknoe in the 600m, while Harrison Turner-Robson secured a crucial point in his event despite stumbling early on in the race.
The final score saw Buckingham take victory by a single point.
