ROLLER DERBY: An Upper Heyford roller derby side (pictured) is on the lookout for players as the sport gains in popularity.

The Oxford Wheels Of Gory Roller Derby League team practices at the sports hall in Upper Heyford every Wednesday from 8-10pm and Sunday from 5-7pm.

The club has its own page on facebook where it can be contacted or people can email it at

Spokesman Jane Cameron said: “We give full training so even if you have never put on a pair of skates in your life you can still come and join.

“We are open to females of 18-plus as it is a full contact sport but we welcome men over 18 to come and join as referees or non-skating officials.

“Our aim is to help get women fit and back into sport in a fun way which is welcoming and supportive with a friendly atmosphere.”
