Romaine spell leads Evenley to nervy victory

A TENSE one-wicket victory for Premier Division leaders Evenley over Thornborough kept them top.

Alex Romaine took 5-25 to help bowl the home side out for a mere 85 but Evenley struggled over the line with Matt Wethey (17) top scorer.

Syresham (68-2) are second after a thumping eight-wicket win over Marston St Lawrence (67) as Nic Parry took 4-11.

Meanwhile, Castlethorpe (107-6) beat Byfield (84) and Middleton Cheney’s match with Warwick University Staff was abandoned.

The most enthralling match of the day was played at Woodford Halse (130) where they tied with Hinton-in-the-Hdges (130-9) after Richard Willis’ 33.

Bodicote (208-4) top Division One after hammering Greens Norton (60) while Wroxton (141-5) are second after defeating Preston Capes (140).

A fine 91 from Dave Beale couldn’t prevent defeat for Stoneligh (183-9) against Radway (206) and Afro Caribbean (179-8) edged past Byfield ‘A’ (177-4) as Willoughby’s game with Grange Park was abandoned.

In Division Two, Charlton (116-3) are top thanks to a seven-wicket win over Preston Bissett (115) with Evenley ‘A’ (90-5) second after seeing off Crown (89) as Simon Walker (32 not out) saw them home.

Culworth v Fenny Compton and Croughton v MK Air were called off and Hanslope were awarded 20 points after their opponents, Preston Capes ‘A’, failed to raise a side.

Only one match was played in Division Three, which saw Marston St Lawrence ‘A’ (115-8) beat Wardington (114) with Martin Sirot-Smith taking 3-4.

The rain also affected Divison Four as only two matches took place, including Priors (85) going top with a 51-run victory over Willoughby ‘A’ (34) – Oscar Heath (5-2) and Clive Turner (3-9) the stars.

Matt Sleath (44) and Adam Hodges (43) helped Helmdon (167-8) to a comfortable win over Chipping Warden (110).

In Division Five, Julian Walker took 5-22 as Evenley ‘B’ (53-2) eased past Flecknoe (52) while Silverstone ‘A’ (157-9) are third after defeating Brackley (122) with Hugh Moran (62) and Burce Benyon (4-11) standing out.

Preston Bissett ‘A’ (112) overcame Thornborough ‘A’ (95) and Braunston Paddox (82-2) beat Towcestrians (79).
