The Blancpain Endurance Series descends on Silverstone this weekend for its only appearance in Britain this year, with a stunning entry of over 60 GT3-specification cars vying to take part in the 3-Hour race that forms round two of the season.
The Blancpain Endurance Series kicked-off at Monza in Italy last month when victory went to the Rinaldi Racing Ferrari 458 Italia driven by Rinat Salikhov and Norbert Siedler.
The duo are looking to repeat their Monza victory at Silverstone this weekend and have Marko Seefried joining them in the Ferrari line-up. They will, however, face stiff opposition from the world’s best GT racers.
For the first time in Blancpain Endurance Series history, the series has attracted over 60 cars for Silverstone , and the main race of the action-packed weekend boasts an impressive array of GT racing machines from many manufacturers.
GT3 cars are raced globally, and the Blancpain GT series now leads the way in competition for the cars, and all the major GT car producers are represented with private team entries.
In 2014, Bentley Motors took a popular victory at Silverstone with their number 7 Continental GT3, driven by Guy Smith, Steven Kane and Andy Meyrick. The trio are back at Silverstone this weekend to attempt to make it two wins from two at the ‘Home of British Motor Racing’ for the British marque.
Guy Smith, winner of the Le Mans 24-Hours with Bentley back in 2003, said this week: “Silverstone is a special weekend for Bentley and for myself. We scored a dream result here last year, taking the first win for Bentley with a GT3 car. Obviously, we would like to emulate that result, but we know this championship is very strong and it will be difficult to do so – but we are looking forward to the challenge.”
A second Bentley Continental entered by Bentley Team M-Sport will line-up with Maximilian Soulet, Maxime Soulet and Andy Soucek at the wheel, while the new Lamborghini Huracan will make its debut on a British track driven by Andrew Palmer, Jeroen Mul and Fabio Babini.
Babini rates Silverstone as one of his favourite circuits in the world, and he has a great record of success at the venue, saying: “I am really looking forward to driving the Lamborghini at Silverstone. I love Silverstone very much and I am hoping we will all have a great weekend.”
