Alexander Sims scored three impressive podium finishes at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy last weekend, racing a T-Sport by Threebond Dallara in rounds of the FIA F3 European Championship, writes James Beckett.
A former winner of the coveted BRDC McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year competition, Sims chased home champion elect, Raffaele Marciello, in race one to start his weekend in fine style. At the wheel of his Brackley-based car, Sims then followed Alex Lynn to the chequered flag in the second race of the weekend before completing the penultimate weekend of the series with a third place finish in his third race.
Afterwards he said: “This has been a great weekend for me and the T-Sport team. We again proved that this car is very competitive in the FIA F3 European Championship and we now have one meeting remaining in the championship at Hockenheim in Germany.”
Sims has not contested the whole of the 2013 F3 season, and only sits ninth overall in the points standings. He added: “The aim for the final races is to win. It would be great to end with a victory and then we can look ahead to Macau and the famous street race that takes place in November.”
Spike Goddard, driving the second T-Sport by Threebond entry, scored a best result of 15th. The young Australian, the 2012 British F3 International Series National champion, also recorded a 17th and 25th place finish in his other races.
Raffaele Marciello, a member of the Ferrari Academy, leads the championship as the series heads to Germany for its final three races of 2013. Marciello drives a Dallara for the Italian-based Prema Powerteam.
