Anthony Romaine scored 73 and took 3-49 in a fine individual display that helped Evenley to a six-wicket win over Warwick University Staff.

Warwick batted first and scored an impressive 186 all out but that was comfortably reached by Evenley to put them third in the South Northants Cricket League Premier Division.

Byfield are currently top after they beat Middleton Cheney by 64 runs, while Syresham (237 all out) are second having beaten Castlethorpe (131-8).

In Division One, Woodford Halse lead the way from Byfield A, who beat bottom-of-the-table Hinton-in-the-Hedges by 62 runs despite Richard Wills’ 4-26.

Evenley A (103 all out) are fourth thanks to a low-scoring win over Charlton (82 all out) with Neil Bollingham (5-13) and Chris Scott (4-19) starring.

It was top against bottom in Division Two as leaders Hanslope thrashed bottom side Crown to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Second are Marston St Lawrence A, two points ahead of Croughton, who bowled Preston Capes out for 61 before cruising to the target with nine wickets to spare.

Kings Sutton top Division Three despite having played a game less than teams below them as they hammered Silverstone by 181 runs.

Meanwhile, Cameron Waldron’s 71 was not enough to prevent third-placed Gayton from slipping to a 55-run loss at Sibford. Syresham A also suffered defeat, losing by 167 runs at Priors.

Towcestrians are top of Division Four after beating third-placed Dunchurch & Bilton A with Willoughby A second and Helmdon fourth.

Finally, in Division Five, second-placed Silverstone A got the better of local rivals Brackley by 63 runs and Evenley succumbed to a seven-wicket defeat to leaders Flecknoe.
