Stoke Bruerne slipped to a narrow two-wicket to Grendon in an entertaining Northamptonshire Cricket League Division Four encounter.

Having lost the toss, Stoke were put into bat on a dry pitch and they made a solid start as the opening pair of Charlie Edwards and Alex Holmes added 63 for the first wicket from 18 overs.

Holmes fell for 38, quickly followed by Bob Anderson, but Ashley Morris joined Edwards and the pair put on 67 in 10 overs.

Another solid partnership between Sam Heath and Edwards bumped the score up to 203 when Edwards was dismissed for an excellent 93

Heath then took over as he smashed his way to 67 to help Stoke close on an imposing 268.

Stoke began well with the ball as Heath picked up two early wickets, removing Hutchings and Matt Virgin.

Further wickets tumbled but Dan Wood (99) and Dave Wood (52 not out) batted well to see Grendon edge over the winning line with five balls and two wickets to spare.

Dave Weston was the outstanding Stoke bowler, taking 2-69 from 15 overs, with Sam Heath, Elliot Walters and Morris picking up the rest.

Stoke are ninth in the table and host seventh-placed Geddington this weekend.
