Syresham defeat lowly Thornborough

Syresham piled more misery on struggling Thornborough at the weekend, when they coasted to a comfortable eight-wicket win in the Premier Division.

Thornborough, who sit bottom of the table, batted first but were quickly dismissed for just 73 as Dan Archer (5-28) and Dave Mitson (3-23) did the damage.

Syresham had no problems in reply, with Mitson’s 43 not out leading his side to the winning target. The result keeps Syresham third.

Evenley also claimed a comprehensive win as they defeated Radway by 129 runs to stay fourth. Steve Harris scored 89 in Evenley’s 242-6 before Oliver Patterson’s 4-28 helped skittle Radway out for just 113.

Byfield remain top of the table after they beat Wroxton by two wickets.

In Division One, Evenley A maintained their two point lead at the top after a six-wicket win over Bodicote. Bodicote batted first and scored 185-9 before Dave Holden struck 92 as Evenley chased down the target.

Hinton-in-the-Hedges came within 6 runs of their first victory of the season as they were bowled out for 127 chasing Grange Park’s 132-9. Charlton were also beaten after Matt Yuill’s 88 led Greens Norton to a nine-wicket win.

Dunchurch & Bilton stayed top of Division Two thanks to a eight-wicket win at Preston Capes, while Richard Wetherill (66) and Darren Atkins (63) guided Croughton to an imposing 250-7, which proved 96 runs too many for Braunston Paddox as Mohammed Ishaq took 5-28.

Division Three leaders Kings Sutton continued their good form with another heavy win. Batting first, the Sutton made 234-8 before bowling Gayton out for just 75 to clinch a 159-run victory.

Silverstone are up to third following a 33-run victory at Bodicote A. Adam Green (3-31) and Andrew Key (40) were the stand out players, while Nick Stanger’s 83 took Gawcott & Hillesden up to fourth with a 42-run triumph against Sibford.

Syresham A, however, were beaten by four wickets at Woodford Halse despite James Hulston scoring 53.

Towcestrians continue to dominate Division Four with a two-wicket win against Middleton Cheney A, but Helmdon kept their promotion hopes on track, largely thanks to Chris Lipson’s unbeaten 98 that led them to a win at Chipping Warden.

In Division Five, James Timmis scored 93 and Alex Taylor hit 77 for Brackley in a 116-run win over Preston Capes. Evenley B were beaten by Braunston Paddox.

Finally, in the cup competitions, Syresham are into the semi-finals of the Wardington Cup after a 36-run win against Croughton, while Hinton-in-the-Hedges A will play either Towcestrians or Middleton Cheney in the final of the Division Four & Five Knock-out Cup.
