Syresham inflicted a hard-fought 47-run home victory over last season’s champions Byfield on a rain-hit Saturday in the South Northants Cricket League Premier Division.
Fourth-placed Syresham posted 167-6, with Dave Draper topscoring with 53, supported by Marc Wilson (35) and George Brock (26). In reply Byfield made 120, Duncan Harris hitting 39 as Adam Abbotts struck with 3-42 and Nathan Archer 2-34.
Evenley maintained their lead at the top of the table in a rain affected home game against second-placed Warwick University Staff.
Evenley bowled out Staff for 79 and were going well at 32-2 when the game fell victim to the weather. Anthony Romaine hit an unbeaten 25, while Ben Patterson grabbed 3-18, Talib Ali 3-30 (pictured) and Steve Harris 3-24.
Thornborough’s game at Marston St Lawrence went no further after Marston had made 39-2, while Hinton-in-the-Hedges were doing well at Woodford Halse (87-7, Mark Mounsdon 4-41) when rain saw play abandoned.
In the M & P.Scott (Builders) Division One, the game between leaders Castlethorpe and third-placed Middleton Cheney was ended by rain after nine overs, while there was no play between second-placed Afro Caribbean and Willoughby.
Greens Norton (154-9) stay top of Division Two after beating Sibford (123) by 31 runs.Matt Baker hit 62 for Norton, with Steve Jones in support with 21, the latter also grabbing 4-23.
