YOUTH FOOTBALL: Moretonville Rovers U11s fought out a 1-1 draw with American touring side, North Kitsap Asteroids, at Gawcott playing fields but went down 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out.
The game was a closely fought affair between two well-matched sides.
Rovers, who are bidding to become divisional champions in their league, hosted the youngsters from Poulsbo, Washington State, whose British tour took in a game at Oxford as well as a visit to Fulham FC’s Academy.
Rovers’ spokeswoman Sharon Mackereth said: “All the players throughly enjoyed the game despite the poor weather and it was a fair result at the end of the day.”
A reception was held afterwards at the Best Western Hotelin Buckingham where gifts were exchanged between the two sides.
The match was arranged through Moretonville assistant manager Jon Hardy, whose brother-in-law Pip Thompson is head coach of the North Kitsap Asteroids.
Rovers are next in action this weekend against Tattenhoe Whites in a bid to achieve some silverware.
