Thornborough’s Danny Watts will line-up at Silverstone this weekend as the big home favourite competing in the 6-Hours of Silverstone – round four of the 2012 FIA World Endurance Championship.
Watts will form part of the Strakka Racing line-up for the big race alongside Nick Leventis and Jonny Kane, at the wheel of the Whittlebury-based team’s Honda-powered HPD car.
Watts said this week: “ I am really looking forward to racing at Silverstone.
“It is great to be part of a World Championship that has the British round at my local track.
“I have spent so much time at Silverstone over the years and I can’t wait to race with so many of my family and friends watching.”
The Strakka Racing team will contest the LMP1 division of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and will go head-to-head for overall victory against the manufacturer teams from Audi and Toyota.
Watts, who raced against, and beat Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton in lower formula, added: “We know we will have our work cut out to beat either Audi or Toyota as both have very fast cars.
“However, anything can happen in a long endurance race and you have to make sure you stay clear of trouble and have your car running at the finish.
“The most important thing for us this weekend is to have a clean race and score as many championship points as possible.
“The WEC has four races to go after Silverstone and so half the season will still remain. We have lots of racing still to do this season.”
The FIA World Endurance race starts at 12pm on Sunday.
