Oliver White’s three wins in the Champion of Brands series in 2013 have helped him claim the Cunningham Cup, writes James Beckett.
Awarded to the Driver of the Year in the Cubik SuperSeries for Formula Ford 1600, the Cunningham Cup is now one of the most prized trophies in junior single seater racing.
The Cunningham Cup will return to the circuits in 2014, comprising of Formula Ford races at Brands Hatch, Kirkistown and Castle Combe. It is expected that a race at Silverstone will be added to the calendar.
Oliver White will drive a Van Diemen car, a type of car that took him to impressive podium finishes in both the end-of-season Formula Ford Festival and the Walter Hayes Trophy events.
White said: “Formula Ford is a great category and I am really looking forward to racing in events during 2014. My aim is to retain the Cunningham Cup.”
Neil Cunningham, the former racer whose name is carried on the Cunningham Cup, added: “Oliver White is one of Britain’s finest young drivers and I am very pleased he has again decided to challenge for the Cunningham Cup in 2014. I look forward to watching his progress and wish him, and all of the other competitors, the very best of luck for the year ahead.”
