A TRIO of local musicians are starting up a new community string orchestra, and anybody interested in joining is welcome to come along to an initial meeting on Wednesday, June 15, in Buckingham’s Chantry Chapel.

Violinist Rachel Fountain, viola player Celia Adams and cellist Ruth Sentance are friends who have played together for several years as a string trio, and now want to form a larger local group for similarly interested players.

Heart Strings is aimed at a range of abilities, including accomplished string players seeking a friendly local group, adults who learned to play at school and wish to start playing again, and new learners who have been playing for at least a year.

Rachel said: “Our aim is to establish a welcoming and supportive group of musicians who meet weekly for rehearsals and hold one or two informal concerts a year.

“We have been fortunate enough to receive a donation from the Community Panto Fund to cover the initial rental of the hall and the costs of buying or borrowing sheet music. This should go a long way in helping us to start off.”

The group plans to meet every Wednesday during term time. Rehearsals will be held in two-hour sessions with a break at half-time for socialising.

The initial meeting is at 8pm at the Market Hill venue, which is Buckingham’s oldest building and has been under the care of the National Trust since 1912.
