Festival groups to get uniform support

THE support Brackley Town council gives to community events is being reviewed after a request for free use of the Town Hall for a new Folk Festival.

Every year the council supports not for profit events by allowing community groups to use the hall at a reduced rate or for free.

On Monday evening Ted Webb of Roman Way asked the council to consider supporting a new festival he hoped to launch in April 2012.

Mr Webb, who has helped organise other festivals, hopes the festival would become self funding and envisaged the area in an around the town hall being filled with music, dance and the people of Brackley taking part in folk workshops.

Several members of the council said they were keen support the festival.

However others expressed concern at the number of recent requests for the same kind of support. The committee decided to set up a working party to develop a uniformed approach to future request for support.
