Stars of the English National Opera will shine in Bicester

BICESTER will be treated to a dazzling concert of classical songs featuring two stars of the Royal Opera House next Saturday, March 3.

Internationally-known singers Justin Lavender and Mary Plazas will perform an evening of classical songs and opera arias hosted by Bicester Choral and Operatic Society.

With appearances at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, La Scala in Milan, and with the English National Opera (ENO) to their name, Mr Lavender and Ms Plazas are among the best-known opera singers in the country.

Mr Lavender, a concert tenor and a professor of vocal studies at the Royal College of Music in London, has travelled all over world with national opera groups, and has performed at many prestigious festivals.

He is also one of the few Western singers to be able to sing in Mandarin Chinese.

Ms Plazas, a long-term president of Bicester Choral and Operatic Society, has sung lead soprano for the ENO and has won innumerable accolades over a professional career spanning 20 years.

More recent performances have included the title role in Gounod’s Faust at Covent Garden, Florestan in Beethoven’s Leonore with the Chelsea Opera Group, Don José with the Welsh National Opera, and Loge in Wagner’s Das Rheingold for the Latvian National Opera.

The concert starts at 7.30pm in the John Paul II Centre in The Causeway.
