Theatre In The Villages comes to Winslow’s St Laurence Room on Saturday, October 22, with a one-woman show about Fanny Cradock, entitled The Life And Loves Of A Kitchen Devil.
The first celebrity TV chef was an extraordinary woman, inventor of the prawn cocktail and a household name in the 1960s. Fascinated viewers watched her cooking, clad in an evening dress, with her adored but submissive common-law husband, the monocled Major John Cradock , hovering in the wings to carry out her every command.
To those used to meat and two veg, her creations seemed magical, though they could venture into the surreal with her use of a piping bag and artificial colourings.
Widely remembered as ferocious and frightful, in her private life a different personality emerges – resilient, resourceful and romantic.
Show starts at 8pm. Tickets £10 (£8 concessions) from Delicatessen Estrella on the High Street, Winslow.
