This year’s Music In The Market in Buckingham will have more of an acoustic, country and rootsy flavour, say the organisers.

The live music event, on Sunday, May 25, will feature nine hours free live music from 1pm to 10pm in the Market Square.

Featured acts include Buckingham’s new country rockers Roadhouse,
featuring Suzy Smith, and the day will include all styles of music such as folk, acoustic-based rock, and saxophone quartets.

Syd Twineham’s Montanas are set to headline the evening’s performances.

Music in the Market is staged by Buckingham Acoustic Club, supported by Buckingham Town Council.

The acoustic club has met every week for nearly 20 years, providing a platform for the best local acoustic music.

It meets on a Thursday evening at the Woolpack, in Well Street.

This year’s Music In The Market will include more than a dozen local bands and solo artists.

The line-up will include the folk of Linda Watkins and Mike Weston, the acoustic-based rock of David Cattermole, the great harmonies of Kobold, and club regulars Ian Murray, Reif Greatbatch, 1950s rock’n’roll from Henry, and local songwriter Marian Wedley.

Come along to the event at any time and there will be something different for most tastes. Please remember the Market Square is a glass-free zone.

Last year’s Music In The Market benefited from glorious sunshine, drawing out the crowds to enjoy acts including The Bolivian Sunshine Dogs.

Chairman of Buckingham Town Council’s town centre and events committee Robin Stuchbury said: “The turnout was fantasti c. It makes it worthwhile.

“If it wasn’t for the fact we have a wide range of volunteers. we wouldn’t be able to do things like this.

“We had people at this event from 75 to five years old.

“Long may it persist.”

Watch out for the full line-up for this year’s event nearer the time.
